If you enjoy driving, love animals and want to use a few hours of your time to help animals in need, we'd love to hear from you.

Animal Welfare Investigations Project is looking for friendly, reliable volunteers with access to their own vehicle who can spare a few hours each week to support animals in our care.

As a Volunteer Driver, you will play an important role in making sure our animals can get where they need to be safely and on time. This may include transporting animals between foster homes and veterinary appointments, collecting prescriptions, and helping us collect donated food, supplies and other essential items.

You will use your own suitable vehicle, but AWIP will provide any equipment required to transport animals safely, along with full training and ongoing support from our team.

Volunteer Driver Responsibilities

As a Volunteer Driver, you may be asked to:

• Transport animals between foster homes and veterinary practices
• Take animals to veterinary appointments and return them to their foster carers
• Collect prescriptions and medication from veterinary practices
• Collect donated food, litter, bedding and other animal care supplies
• Transport donated goods between collection points, foster homes and AWIP locations
• Provide occasional transport support when animals are being moved into foster or adoptive homes

What We're Looking For

We are looking for volunteers who:

• Are aged 18 or over and hold a full, valid driving licence
• Have access to a safe, suitable and reliable vehicle
• Are physically able to lift animal carriers and supplies in and out of a vehicle
• Are friendly, patient and compassionate, with a genuine commitment to animal welfare
• Can be flexible and offer a regular, ongoing commitment
• Are careful, responsible and confident drivers
• Are comfortable working independently while following instructions from the AWIP team

Hours can be agreed depending on your availability and the needs of our animals.

Vehicle and Insurance Requirements

You must have access to your own vehicle, hold a full clean driving licence and have appropriate motor insurance that covers you while carrying out your volunteering activities.

We will ask to see the relevant documentation before you begin volunteering.

Reasonable volunteering expenses are available.

Joining the Team

Before joining Animal Welfare Investigations Project as a volunteer, you will be asked to complete an application form, attend an informal interview and provide suitable references.

Once accepted, you will receive an induction, training and ongoing support to make sure you feel confident carrying out the role safely and effectively.

Being a Volunteer Driver is a simple but incredibly important way to support our frontline animal welfare work. By helping an animal get to a veterinary appointment, reach a safe foster home or access the treatment they need, you can make a very real difference.
